Data Science Institute

What initially made you interested in data science?Logan Heft

My passion for data science stems from my deep involvement in sports and my fascination with the metrics and statistics that unveil the true essence of a player's performance. Witnessing the transformative potential of data-driven approaches and the remarkable insights they reveal captivated my imagination and compelled me to apply to this program. It inspired me to embark on a journey into the field of data science, driven by a desire to leverage data's power and unravel meaningful patterns across diverse domains.

What are the most important skills that you learned during this program?

In addition to the program's academic rigor, it offered invaluable soft skills development. A standout skill I acquired was the capacity to take full ownership of a project and create a strategic roadmap for success. The program, through practical experiences like the practicum and diverse coursework projects, emphasized comprehensive project management. From initial planning to presenting highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences, it fostered professional growth and ensured a well-rounded understanding of project governance.

What are your plans following the program?

Upon graduation, I will be joining PNC Financial Services in New York City as a Portfolio Analytics & Strategy Specialist.

Is there anything else that you'd like to share about your experience at the Data Science Institute?

I think that if anyone is unsure of the program, they should take a minute to reach out to any individuals on this page. Before I committed to Brown, I spoke with quite a few of program alumni so I could hear about their experiences directly. I think that prospective students will hear overwhelmingly positive feedback and the highest of endorsements for the program. I hope that the experience you have at Brown (not only in the classroom but also within the greater Brown community) will be as enriching for you as it was for me!
