Biography

How does your research, teaching, or other work relate to data or computational science?

I serve as the Director of Academic Assessment and Evaluation for the Program in Biology within the Division of Biology and Medicine. Much of my position focuses on collecting, aggregating, and analyzing data related to Biology initiatives. In essence, I evaluate the educational innovations that we pursue as the Program in Biology. This includes concentration reviews, evaluations of new assessment and pedagogical strategies, and other assessments (e.g., evaluating concentration advising). In addition to my administrator role, I teach in the Biology Education section. My courses include BIOL 0100: Living Biology at Brown and Beyond; BIOL 0946: Research Design and Quantitative Methods for the Health Sciences; and BIOL 1000: Quality Improvement Science and Application. Both BIOL 0946 and BIOL 1000 teach students about the importance of data and it's use in the health sciences and beyond. I have served a thesis advisor for students within the Program in Biology who pursue secondary data analyses to answer new questions and address gaps in the existing literature.
