Tomo Lazovich

Biography

Tomo holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard and has applied their analytical skills to cutting-edge machine learning. They were a Senior Machine Learning Researcher at Twitter, where they were part of the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team. In this role, Tomo developed critical metrics to measure inequality, showcasing their impressive ability to build technical solutions to complex, real-world problems. Tomo was then a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University, where their research focuses on operationalizing responsible machine learning principles in real world settings. Most recently, they were an Emerging Technology Fellow with the xD team at the U.S. Census Bureau, focusing on projects related to the societal impacts of AI and using privacy-enhancing technologies to enable model audits. 

Tomo's research focuses on understanding algorithmic impacts, developing novel approaches for model accountability, and envisioning more just socio-technical infrastructures. They are also dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry, and policymakers, and are currently pursuing a JD at Northeastern to fuse their technical and legal expertise for AI regulatory solutions.
