Biography

Micaela Parker is the Founder and Executive Director of the Academic Data Science Alliance (ADSA). ADSA is a professional association for academic data science leaders, practitioners, and educators. ADSA seeks to bring about the institutional changes needed to thoughtfully integrate data science and AI in all disciplines across campus. By building networks of academic data science leaders, ADSA enables consensus-building and better sharing of ideas and lessons learned. Through collaborative events and community-driven resource development, ADSA advances data science and AI best practices in university research, education, and training. 

Before launching ADSA, Micaela worked for the Moore-Sloan Data Science Environments and was an Executive Director for the University of Washington’s eScience Institute where she developed data science research and training programs. Based on her years of experience, she has authored several papers offering guidance for emerging data science initiatives. Prior to her entry into data science, Micaela was a research scientist in the University of Washington's School of Oceanography, where she also earned her PhD. She managed the Center for Human Health and Ocean Studies and was involved in large, interdisciplinary projects bridging oceanography and genomics. She is an eScience Data Science Fellow.
