I received an A.B. in physics from Harvard in 2000 and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Duke in 2005. During my postdoctoral years at Rutgers and NYU, I transitioned to theoretical and computational neuroscience. I then held faculty positions in mathematics at UNL (2009-2014) and Penn State (2014-2024). My current research focuses on the theory and analysis of neural networks and neural codes, motivated by questions of learning, memory, and sequence generation in cortical and hippocampal circuits. A big part of my research program involves developing novel applications of algebra, geometry, topology, dynamical systems, and combinatorics to neuroscience.
