Two DSI postdocs will continue their data science work locally

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Sarah Brown, currently a DSI Postdoctoral Fellow, has accepted a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Rhode Island and will move to URI in August 2020.

Sarah AliceSarah has contributed in many important ways to DSI’s mission, for instance by convening and leading a collaborative working group on Algorithmic Fairness, which involved faculty, postdocs, and students across Brown, working with undergraduate students on research projects, and helping to revise, reshape, and teach our Master's-level data and society course. We wish Sarah all the best for her next career steps and look forward to strengthening our ties with URI.

In addition, we are excited to welcome back to Brown a former DSI postdoc, Dr. Alice Paul, who will be joining the Department of Biostatistics in August as an Assistant Professor, Teaching Scholar. After completing her Brown postdoc, Alice joined Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Applied Math and Computer Science. During her time at Olin, she enjoyed interacting with the students, especially through student research involving bike share and scooter share networks. This summer, Alice is leading a group of students in analyzing data from Providence's scooter share programs to understand demand and access throughout the city. She looks forward to contributing to the courses in the department and continuing to do research with students.
